The clouds have rolled in, the thermometer is dropping, and the days are ending much faster. It must be October. Granted, we’re in Texas so maybe that lovely autumn weather we were feeling last night was just a fluke, but we’re hoping it’s here to stay. When fall starts to set in, I get giddy with excitement. I start thinking about football and gumbo (I’m from south Louisiana), curling up with my tablet to read on the porch swing or under a shedding tree on a blanket in the park, and the impending holiday season.
October specifically calls to mind Halloween, and for those of us familiar with Mexican culture, El Dia de los Muertos. October always conjures up images of witches, vampires, sugar skulls, séances, and candlelit vigils to communicate with the dead and undead. I start thinking fondly of the Goosebumps and Fear Street books I was obsessed with in my younger reading days. So what better way to honor October than to focus on the horror and fantasy genres? During the month of October we’ll be focusing on different facets of horror and fantasy, as well as showcasing some of our own authors who write within these genres.
Speaking of horrors, October is also National Breast Cancer Awareness month. As this is one scary diagnosis, and a cause we like to support, we’ll be promoting breast cancer awareness and make it relevant to what we do here at Kbuuk.
Lastly, with the leaves falling and the weather cooling it’s also a great time for travel. Starting in October we’ll be visiting (well, we’ll be connecting with people through guest posts) different cities around the U.S. to see how literature plays a role in the city’s culture. First up will be the Big Apple, so keep an eye out for that. If you would like to be considered for a guest post for your city, please contact us at email@example.com.
If you’re ready to publish your horror or fantasy work, or any work for that matter, create your Kbuuk account now. Happy Reading and Writing, and we hope you enjoy October as much as we will!
